Pale Berlin x Lena Kiss

A collaboration with Berlin-based artist Lena Kiss. Her anthropomorphic forms are translated into a series of pieces developed exclusively for Pale.

FORMS

The artist works at the intersection of drawing, painting, and ceramics, developing a practice that moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Central to her work are anthropomorphic forms that often drift into the fantastical -figures that appear familiar, yet seem guided by an internal logic of their own.

PROCESS

Her process is cyclical and open-ended: ideas emerge through making, and the act of working gives rise to new associations. This approach is reflected in her predominantly analog use of materials, including clay, textile, ink, and gouache—media that allow for immediacy, resistance, and trace.

RELATIONS

Themes of connection and relationality run throughout her work, addressing both interpersonal dynamics and the individual’s position within a collective. Her figures often appear tentative, searching, and permeable, carrying a quiet sense of vulnerability that manifests through line, surface, and form. Drawing from observation and memory, she does not seek to document, but to condense experience into an associative, raw visual language.

ART

She understands art as both a form of expression and a mode of communication: a way of translating inner experience into shared form and of opening spaces for resonance.

Alongside drawing, her practice extends into a space between fine art and applied art. She creates vessels, jewelry, props, and object-based works that combine functional aspects with sculptural and narrative qualities. Her recurring forms reappear across these works, inhabiting everyday contexts as both carriers of meaning and subtle companions.

BIOGRAPHY

The artist lives and works in Berlin. She studied Fine Arts in Stuttgart and Basel. Her work has been shown at institutions including Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Konstanz, Cité des Arts in Paris, and Ufer Studios in Berlin. In parallel to her artistic practice, she is active in the field of aesthetic education and researches its role in the development of emotional competencies.
